This may be kind of a newbie question but what are the benefits of having a locked spur gear? doesn't that spur gear get stripped when you put it in a bind?

well if your driving skill and driving habits are realy ruff it might strip one day but all my rigs have solid spur and i'm not alvays gentle with them and never had problems with them and no slippage from the slipper

Looks great!

Question what shocks are you using? And the internal springs, is that from that magic bag at princess auto?

First off I wanna say thanks guys. We actually had a killer build day today and i'll be doing a big update tomorrow!!!

true-scalecrawler- Rock buggies, are the new thing man. haha

*tonto*- I haven't stripped a spur gear yet, I usually break the out drives. I'm very hard on my stuff, and a firm believer in make it or break it. So I run a locked spur.

magicmarker77- My springs are actually from the depot, most people say they are too stiff but they work great for me.

And again thanks guys

Well yesterday was a productive day. First off I spent some time with the grinder cleaning up the welds.

Looks pretty good

After a quick assembly it looks pretty awesome lots of triangulation. THIS THING HAS A LOW COG!!!

Though we made a great electronics tray for this truck Chris suggested mounting the esc close to the motor so we can run short wires. Made sense, so we took the bottom of the esc, drilled and countersunk the screws threw it and mounted it to the 2 unused skid plate holes. AWESOME!!! It will fit under my seat and be protected by the floor.

Now you get to see the future!!!! I am a huge fan of 4-link, but hate the space the plates take up not to mention they look kinda out of place. I like trusses but again they need space and the little holes in the axle that they bolt to are fairly shallow and weak. So GCM is now prototyping the Mini Truss 4-link mount!!!

This thing is beefy and threaded for 3mm hardware made out of 6061 aluminum and has clearance for a
full range of motion.

Then I installed the cage. It fit perfect dropped right on and is solid!!!

Shot of the 1/8 scale winch!!!! Got a cool idea for controlling this thing more on that next time.

FLEX SHOT, not a lot but this thing is gonna see a lot of different terrain and needs to be predictable.

Tonnes left to do!!! Need to paint, wire up my winch, clean up wiring, lighting, interior and so on. BUT

FIRST TESTING!!!!!!!

Alright so I got a bit of a test run in, not long, but on a good course and I LOVE IT!!! This truck handles like a sports car, jumps like a buggy, and crawls over everything with low speed grunt! It’s amazing, that’s really all I can say. I’m running unweighted rims and this rig could side hill and handle near verticals with ease. I’m really impressed. But I did have some issues. First of all my servo is on its way out and won’t throw full to the left. Second, I need a BEC (which I already got) wired in because after 30 minutes hard steady running it was showing signs of power failure to the receiver and servo. Thirdly this cage needs some more cool factor!!!

So out came the brake line, cutter and round file. On the list of cage mods there were a few things to do. I really like the basic shape but it lacked details, so the back end got some more rails and webbing. Then the frontend got a nice arched fender rail, this will fill the space under the fender and add structure. I added another diagonal brace across the door to create a solid line around the perimeter. I had really like the head light hoops I had done but after getting the winch mounted, I realized they were just too tall. So they are getting chopped. Here is where I’m at.

Here is a better shot of the Mini Truss Prototype, I can’t even start to explain how awesome this thing is!! It’s tiny, it’s tough, it’s really triangulated and hides nicely out of sight.

I also have the winch out so I can work on the wiring. I don’t have a work bench in the garage yet so I’m doing most of my work on top of the tool boxes. Gotta get a work bench.

Here is my possible controller for the winch. It’s a receiver/esc in one out of a toy rc with a forward and reverse function. This thing would clip on to my belt or something and be really easy to use. But can it handle the voltage????

I’d have to coat the whole thing in silicone too

That’s it for now.
