Eastridge Hobbies and Crawl Canada Vendors Present: The Crawl Canada Community Build
Eastridge Hobbies (www.eastridgehobbies.ca) and many of the Crawl Canada Vendors, are very proud to present The Crawl Canada Community Truck. We have gathered together products that are available to all members of Crawl Canada and over the span of the next couple of months we plan on creating an amazing Scale Crawler that will showcase not only the great products available to everyone, but also the skills of Crawl Canada members from all over the country. Here is some background to how this idea came about. I used to be a member of a static model forum and the members there had done a few group builds. These builds began with a stock model kit and then the truck was shipped around to different members who wanted to contribute to the build. Each stop the kit would keep evolving into a very custom build. This truck will be a bit scaled down on the aspect of shipping the truck from place to place, as that will end up costing many people a fair amount of money. Not only will this thread be a build thread, but it will document the truck as it moves around, and hopefully more then one person will be able to contribute something to it. In the end, we hope to have an amazing one off truck that will be some what of a Crawl Canada Mascot. Eastridge Hobbies has generously contributed an Axial Racing SCX-10 kit that will be the base of the truck. Since we want to document as much of the build as possible, I am going to try to keep a log on the updates, that way we can see where the truck is and what has been happening at that point of the build.
Location: Miramichi, NB Stage: Axial SCX-10 Kit Build The first step of this build consists of building up the Axial SCX-10 Kit that has been donated to the build by our Title Sponsor, Eastridge Hobbies. You can check out Eastridge Hobbies here on Crawl Canada in their Gold Vendors Section I created a time lapsed build video, the build of the kit lasted about 2 hours Vimeo: http://www.vimeo.com/5460036 Dailymotion: http://www.dailymotion.com/user/Jaso...y-truck_people youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuiB6hWwers End Product: ![]() ![]()

Miramichi, NB Stage: Anodizing Parts: Beadlock Rings Contributor: GCM Racing (Generis) After the kit was assembled, the wheels came off of it, and the modifications began. generis at GCM will be handling the anodizing of the bead lock rings. We decided on a color and off the rings went in the mail. Of Course, now the truck is sitting without any wheels and tires, and it is going to be hard to get the truck moved around from place to place, so I had put on a temporary wheels and tires. ![]()

Location:
Miramichi, NB Stage: Chassis Upgrade Parts: GCM Racing CrossCanyon Chassis HeyOK Performance Delrin Cross Members Contributors: GCM Racing HeyOK Performance I will compare the CrossCanyon Chassis to the stock SCX-10 frame rails. After having experience with the SCX-10 frame rails and seeing many other people with the axial rails it has become pretty common knowledge that the frame has some weak spots in it, and many frames have ended up with a twist in them. The CrossCanyon frame is a much thicker aluminum and should help prevent the twisting that is common with the SCX-10. The frame has a couple of different mounting options with at the shock towers. It is also nice and long, to accommodate long body shells, but you can cut the frame rails down to make them fit the body you are running. Another feature I have noticed is that the rear lower links mount above the rear skid plate, a bit different from every other chassis on the market. We will see how this goes further on in the build. HeyOK Performance has just started making some nice thick delrin cross members that are custom made to the width that you need. These also come tapped and all set to mount right into your chassis. We went with a combination of round cross members and also a couple of square cross members that will be at each end of the chassis. The combination of the CrossCanyon Chassis and the HeyOK Performance Delring Cross Members really creates a nice stiff Chassis. Not so stiff that there is no flex. The way this truck will be built, a bit of flex will be welcoming. Here is the frame mocked up beside the SCX-10 Kit, just getting ready to be installed: ![]() ![]() Built up the frame. At this time, we are waiting on some 4 link axle plates, so I added some used ones off of my own truck to get us by for a bit. We will have some nice custom plates made, they are just not in yet. ![]() ![]() I had to figure out a place to mount the battery tray, and I wanted to keep the weight close to the front end. I figure with this positioning, we will be able to run the battery here, and hopefully the ESC between the battery and the shocks. This late is made out of cutting board. I clamped both frame rails together to drill the holes in the same place on both sides. The battery tray is has holes drilled in it, to mount it to the plate. The front plate was going to be for mounting the ESC and RX on, but it was interfering with the steering servo location, so it has been removed for the time being. End product: ![]()

Miramichi, NB Stage: Delrin/Carbon Links Parts: HeyOK Performance Delring Lower Links HeyOK Performance Carbon Upper Links Contributor: HeyOK Performance HeyOK sent out a full set of front and rear lower and upper links. All of the lower links were bent lower links. After looking at the truck I thought it would look best to straight links up front. So the new front lower links are in the mail on their way to go on the build. Normally the links come with the rod ends, but for this build, since we had all of the stock parts, we opted to just give HeyOK the lengths of the links we needed and we used the set screws and links from the kit to build up the links. When I first started talking to Al (HeyOK) about custom links for the truck. He told me that he was testing out some Carbon upper links. He told me if all went well with the testing we would get a set for the truck. I guess testing went well, because this truck is going to have a nice set of Carbon Upper Links on it. They were made to spec, with the rod ends being clocked 90* to each other, so they would work with this build. Be sure to take a look at them above with all of the pictures of the products that have been contributed. Here is the rear end with the bent links and carbon upper links: ![]() Here is the front end, only the carbon links are mounted as I changed from the bent links to waiting on striaght links. We will just be using the stock links in mock up until the new lowers get here. ![]()

Location:
Miramichi, NB Stage: Roller/Prep for shipping Destination: Tired - Victoria, BC The next step in the build is going to be the body work. This truck is going to be some sort of Truggy/Flatbed. We will leave it up to Tired as to what he wants to build up. The truck is in roller form now. Everything mentioned so far in the build has been put together and I have boxed it up and it has been shipped off to Victoria, BC. Here is the truck before it went into the box and off to the post office: ![]()

Cool to see this up and going, another great initiative by our vendors.
The location and build log...the time lapse/slide show's a cool idea too!
